There are many situations where a Teams site and the underlying SharePoint site may need to be renamed: Created in error Organisational restructure Introduction of naming policies This has been a challenging goal to achieve but it is now relatively straightforward when you combine the SharePoint and Teams PowerShell commandlets. Objective Starting with a SharePoint site and Team that are set up with multiple channels and associated content, we want to change the following elements:
Read moreThis has been my 4th Ignite and I have to say, this year has been the best, not because of the announcements - there are always announcements - but because it has been building on what has been achieved over the last five years. One of my biggest complaints in previous years has been the expected date that the features will roll-out to General Availability as showing me cool things I won’t be able to do for 6 months to a year is not useful for me.
Read moreDay 4 concluded with the obligatory celebration at Universal Studios. As if 10,000 steps a day were not enough an additional 10,000 steps and 8 rollercoaster rides were heaped on top of a full-on week. That was not to stop Day 5 being productive! Common Data Model (CDM): All you need to know about CDM Link to recording As the Common Data Model underpins many of the services and tools that have been discussed at Ignite this year, it seemed obviously to come to this session.
Read moreExtending the new Microsoft Project with the Power Platform Link to recording The second session on Microsoft Project and this one was focused on how to leverage the Power Platform that the product is built on to increase and customise the capabilities of the tool. This is definitely one of the key benefits to moving away from Project Online to Project for the Web. As with other sessions around project and Planner and task management, I will write a blog on that specific area as it is so important and is changing so significantly.
Read morePL900 Link to exam page On Monday 4th November, Microsoft released new exams including PL900 - Power Platform Fundamentals. As part of Ignite it is possible to take an exam, I figured it would be a good opportunity to take this beta exam. As I booked it in the evening to take it at 07:15, there was no time to revise other than reviewing the syllabus. The exam isn’t massively difficult, but it does require you to have an understanding of Model Driven Apps and Dynamics 365.

Azure Active Directory: New features and roadmap Link to recording As such a key component of every project based on Office or Microsoft 365, Azure Active Directory is a must know product. Having done many community sessions on the subject of managing guest users, and having been massively excited by developments in identity management over the last 3-4 years, this was a must attend session.

Game Plan This year I am lucky enough to be attending with three colleagues which means we can be strategic about the sessions we attend. While I am planning on attending a wide variety of sessions, my focus is definitely around identity, security and compliance as I have worked with many clients where these areas are the priority items that need to be ticked before any other workloads can be implemented.
Read moreFor years, Google Chrome has been my choice of browser when working with Office 365 environments as it has supported multiple personas that can have their own stored passwords, favourites, and bookmarks. This has been invaluable when working with client environments as I can create a persona for a client, and then remove that persona when I no longer need it. With the release of Chromium-powered Edge (https://www.microsoftedgeinsider.com/en-us/), I was really looking forward to seeing how Microsoft improve on Google Chrome personas.
Read moreMeeting are just a fact of life for most of us. We tend to have too many of them (unless we are the people organising them!). There are many tips and tricks to make meetings more effective and less of a chore but recently I came across quite a few sources that explain how some of the leaders of the biggest tech companies in the world have approached meetings. In this post I am taking the shared learning and trying to distil it down into a set of guidelines for all meetings.
Read moreThis week, I have had the privilege to speak to well over a hundred people about the accessibility features that are available in Microsoft products. The sessions that I have run were varied based on audience and event but the consistent feedback that I have received has been overwhelmingly positive towards the efforts that Microsoft have put into the features, and surprise that there are so many of them available.
